ABOUT EXUMA, BAHAMAS
EXUMA is a 120 mile chain of islands and cays within the archipelago of the Bahamas. The Exuma Cays are the most exotic of the Out Islands, a collection of tiny jewels set in the aquamarine and sapphire of the most beautiful water. The Exuma Islands are a popular spot for yachting, sailing, diving, and coral reef and cave exploring. Many of the unnamed Exuma beaches and coves of the islands, including extensive offshore reef areas, are included in the protected Exuma national Land and Sea Park of the Bahamas National Trust.
Great Exuma Island has been a haven for celebrities for years. In light of the relatively low cost of purchasing islands and the low Bahamian tax regime for non-locals, a number of celebrities own islands in Exuma, such as Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, David Copperfield, Johnny Depp, Eddie Murphy and Tyler Perry.
In January, 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced an agreement that would allow The Bahamas to trade in Chinese Reninbi currency (The Yuan). An agreement is also in place to offer technical research cooperation between the Bahamas Agriculture & Marine Science Institute and China’s Ocean University.
